Hello, quick tip (rather than a question) for those who need to take screenshots and paste directly clipboard - took me a while to figure this out (though is mentioned on Mac OS Support Site at bottom)

  1. Use your mouse to draw a rectangle in order to specify what to capture – or press the spacebar and then click on something (e.g. A window) to capture it. Your Mac then saves it as a file on the desktop. The file name will look like “Screen shot 2020-12-02 at 08.45.00 AM.png”.
  2. Restart your Mac. Long-time no restarting your Mac may cause some applications won't work well.
  3. Take pictures or screen recordings using Screenshot. On your Mac, press Shift-Command-5 (or use Launchpad) to open Screenshot and display the tools. Click a tool to use to select what you want to capture or record (or use the Touch Bar ). For a portion of the screen, drag the frame to reposition it or drag its edges to adjust the size of the area you want to capture or record.

When you want to take a screenshot on your Mac, the first step is pressing the command + shift + 3 keys all at once. This will save a copy of the screen on the clipboard. You can also press this combination minus the command key so as to save this image on the desktop. If you hear the click sound when taking a screen shot the the shot has been taken and it is in your Clipboard. To get it, open any application (like paint or other) and use the 'Paste command' to see it/modify and save as a file in a location of your choosing.

If you ever need to take a screenshot in Windows whilst using Boot Camp on your Mac – and with the Apple supplied keyboard, you may find it difficult to perform this action. However, this scenario occurs more often than you might think. Today, we still see users requesting Google Search to help them with this task. For that reason, we updated this post to reflect the current state of events, keyboards, and practice.

“Print Screen” is a term used in the Windows environment to explain and give the ability for users to capture the content visible on the screen. Specifically, on Windows compatible keyboards, you will notice Print Screen is an actual button. On the Mac keyboards no button is assigned or labelled that way.

The good news is through a series of keystrokes you can perform the same function as Print Screen. On a Mac, you might hear the language of how to screen capture or how to screenshot.
