Since macOS High Sierra 10.13, the operating system applies a stricter security policy to software that requires kernel extensions (kexts). The DisplayLink driver installation includes a system extension (DisplayLinkDriver.kext) that is affected by this policy. The truth of the matter is, DisplayLink driver support for OS X has always been rather shoddy. I purchased a $100 or so docking station a while back, from 'j5create' (who makes a lot of products that specifically claim Mac compatibility). They rely on rebranded/customized DisplayLink drivers to make their video ports on their docks work. Targus released the driver software Release 5.3.1 adding support for Ubuntu 20.04. This version has been validated on a minimal set of DisplayLink based Targus Universal Docking Stations (UDS) but should work with any Targus Universal Docking Stations models ACP7XX, DOCK310, and DOCK1XX.
